Creamy Vanilla Custard Pudding

🍮 Creamy Vanilla Custard Pudding

🧾 Ingredients

  • 2 cups milk
  • 3 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch (cornflour)
  • 2 egg yolks (for richer custard; optional but recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

🥣 Instructions

1. Mix base

In a saucepan (off heat), whisk together:

  • Sugar
  • Cornstarch
  • Salt

Add milk gradually while whisking to avoid lumps.

2. Add egg yolks (if using)

  • Beat egg yolks in a small bowl
  • Add a few tablespoons of the milk mixture to temper them
  • Then mix back into the saucepan

3. Cook

  • Place saucepan over medium heat
  • Stir constantly until mixture thickens (5–8 minutes)
  • It should coat the back of a spoon

4. Finish

  • Remove from heat
  • Stir in butter and vanilla
  • Mix until smooth and glossy

5. Chill

  • Pour into serving bowls
  • Cover surface with plastic wrap (touching the pudding to prevent skin)
  • Refrigerate for 2–3 hours

🍨 Serve

  • Serve chilled or slightly warm
  • Optional toppings: fresh fruit, caramel, chocolate, or nuts

💡 Tips

  • Constant stirring prevents lumps
  • Don’t boil aggressively—it can curdle eggs
  • Use whole milk for creamier texture
  • Add extra vanilla for stronger flavor

🍮 Variations

  • Caramel custard: add caramel sauce on top
  • Chocolate custard: mix in cocoa powder or melted chocolate
  • Fruit custard: top with mixed fruits
  • Eggless version: skip yolks and add extra 1 tbsp cornstarch
